Day 6 – Mazatlan
Day 6 we docked in the morning, and Adrian and I headed out to see what we could see from the balcony.

Mazatlan, Mexico
Well, not a whole lot! As you’ll see in the pictures, it was mostly shipping containers. This is NOT a port for tourists! As a result, there is a “Free and Compulsory Shuttle” that takes you to the … port office, sort of, where you can grab a tour, or a taxi if you like, do some shopping, or just walk out of the port and around the area of Mazatlan. I would recommend against the latter option, as Mazatlan is HUGE. We decided on a tour with a man named Benjamin (called Benjy). For $25 / person, we left around 9:30am and returned around 3pm I think. We toured around old Mazatlan, walked down some of the town-wide boardwalk, took lots of pictures, did a bit of shopping, and ate lunch at a nice cantina.
For those that are unaware, Mazatlan is a major place in Mexico. They produce almost all of the Mitsubishi’s (or assemble them rather, I suppose) that are sold in North America. Mazatlan is also the home of the Pacifico Beer Company / Brewery, which is a Mexican beer (of course) sold all over Mexico and the Southern US. Corona is also produced there. Beer is just about the cheapest thing you can drink in Mexico! In old Mazatlan, Corona or Pacifico at a bar is about $1/beer, and in new Mazatlan, it’s $2. Not bad for drinking at a bar!
Most of the pictures I took are in old Mazatlan – very pretty, with a lovely cost, rocks formations, an old fort, etc. New Mazatlan was more as you’d expect – flea market type stuff, shopping malls, lots of people, etc. so there wasn’t a lot to take pictures of there.
Cheers!
PS – Everytime I see / say Mazatlan, I think of Aslan (Narnia books).
