About

Adrian and I were married on May 18th 2009. Originally we were planning for a wedding sometime in 2010, and in the fall of 2008 we found a great deal on a cruise happening in 2009. We thought it would be a great vacation, a nice 11 day cruise down the Mexican Riviera with NCL. As it turned out, we moved the wedding up, so the cruise became a late honeymoon.

The cruise left on October 23rd in the afternoon, and returned on November 3rd, 2009. As many of you might be aware, we have both a 5 month old puppy and a 5 year old cat to care for. After looking around at different pet-sitting options and finding most of them ridiculously-priced, we found a deal on a flight from Buffalo to San Jose, and flew my dad down to pet-sit instead. He arrived two days before our cruise with a friend from Ontario, and had fun with our puppy while we were away.

Our cruise, as I mentioned, was an 11-day cruise on the Norwegian Sun. I had only been on one cruise before this, a Caribbean cruise with Carnival. I hadn’t been overly impressed with that cruise, so I wasn’t sure what to expect. NCL proved to be terrific. Both Adrian and I were very pleased with the attitudes of the staff, the friendliness, on-board entertainment, and overall, with the whole experience. The staff on the Carnival ship was great, but it was clear that they were looking to earn tips. On NCL, every time we handed out a tip (i.e. to the people delivering room service), they were genuinely very surprised.

We visited five ports in total – Topolobampo (Los Mochis), Pichilingue (La Paz), Mazatlan, Puerto Vallarta, and Cabo San Lucas. We decided on two different shore excursions, a Romantic Sunset Cruise in Topolobampo, and swimming with the dolphins in Puerto Vallarta.

I’ve divided this blog into different pages for each of the ports, and days at sea, with information on our time there as well as photo slideshows of the pictures I took. Enjoy!
